Ken Credeur

KEN CREDEUR

Ken Credeur began his bonsai “life” in 1992 by promptly killing two trees. Undeterred by his lack of success, he began accumulating trees and knowledge by joining the Houston Bonsai Society (HBS), acquiring books and doing research on the Internet.

He particularly enjoys working with azalea, black pine, Japanese and trident maples and cypress specimens.

Ken, who is a past officer, is an active member of HBS and enjoys helping others cultivate an interest in bonsai.

Hurley Johnson

HURLEY JOHNSON

Hurley Johnson wishes that he had paid a lot more attention in biology/botany class in High School. He, like most people tried Bonsai with the wrong trees, and poor information. He killed a lot of trees those first couple of years. Then he found the Houston Bonsai Society (HBS) . The knowledge he gained from the members made the hobby a successful, rewarding one. He also didn’t kill near as many trees.

He enjoys learning from various artists: Boon, Guy Guidry, Marc Noelanders, Roy Nagatoshi, Pedro Morales, Roberto Martinez and Brussels Martin.

Hurley really enjoys working with cypresses, black pines, junipers, and crepe myrtles.

He is a current officer in the HBS, and enjoys sharing his passion for teaching the basics of our hobby.

Yvonne Padilla

YVONNE PADILLA

In 1964 a friend invited me to join Flower Basket Garden Club. Contrary to some beliefs there are garden clubs that study the art of floral design. In learning design I also leaned about dept, balance and other important guidelines that also apply to bonsai. In 1980 the same friend invited me to join the Corpus Christi Bonsai Club. It did not take long for me to get hooked on the wonderful art of designing trees. At that time the club was small and did not have money to bring in out of town artists. I started traveling to other clubs in Texas when they had artists such as John Naka, Bill Valavanis, Roy Nagatoshi and many more artists to numerous to list. I attended state conventions, BCI conventions, took workshops. Though the years I have traveled to almost all of the clubs in Texas and conducted lecture/demonstrations and workshops. I have traveled to Monterrey, Mexico and done the same for the club there. Design is my favorite part of bonsai. I like working with tropicals, sub-tropicals, South Texas native trees including deciduous. These varieties are what I have in my collection.

At present I am the president of the Corpus Christi Bonsai Club and have been several times in the past. Also been president of LSBF several times. Served as Vice-President and Recording Secretary of LSBF and have been the Delegate for approximately twenty seven years. I have been conducting workshops and lecture/demonstrations for the Corpus Christi Bonsai Club for twenty seven years.
